  1. Student Activity Guide
  2. Teacher generated materials

Technology Tools:

For this lesson, we will use the following technology tools:

  • Added Value sites- BrainPop.com, Federal Emergency Management Agency These sites are more interactive, informative, and student-friendly than the worksheets and textbook provided by the district, thus student-engagement will increase and students will stay more engaged with the activity.
  • Skype - The class will participate in a video conference with a representative from the Federal Emergency Management Agency asking them questions they still have concerning their natural disaster. This enables the class to have a virtual speaker, providing an "expert" opinion on the subject matter and give them expert tips on what to do and about their natural disaster.
  • Google Docs - Each group will share their questions in a spreadsheet for the whole class to review. This adds interactivity, knowledge sharing and whole group collaboration.
  • Blog - Each student will use the class Blog to reflect on their learning from each Wiki page. Each individual will be able to express their knowledge learned from their peers and what they learned using the technology. The students will be respectful to their peers when posting on the class blog demonstrating correct digital citizenship.
  • Wiki - each group will contribute to the class Wiki by adding information they have collected in their tables about their groups natural disaster. Student will be using a form of technology that will allow them to view their whole classes research on natural disasters. Knowledge-sharing in a social forum--awareness of a real-world audience and influence on others.
  • Use of the computer lab was needed so each student had their own computer.
